Bilbao Airport to NYX Hotel
The distance between Bilbao Airport (“Aeropuerto de Bilbao”) and the NYX Hotel Bilbao is approximately 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) by road. The exact travel time can vary depending on traffic conditions and the chosen route. A taxi or Uber would be the most efficient option to get from the airport to the hotel.
Taxi from Bilbao Airport to City Center
A taxi from Bilbao’s airport isn’t inexpensive. The cost was 30 Euros from the airport to the NYX Hotel. You’re paying for convenience. It’s the quickest option, and there’s an endless supply of taxis waiting outside the arrivals area to pick people up.
Uber to NYX Hotel
Uber prices vary, as do pickup times. I’ve seen prices as high as 60 Euros from Bilbao’s airport to the city center.
On the other hand, I’ve taken an Uber from the NYX Hotel back to the airport for 20 Euros. It’s always worth checking, since a car is much easier and more convenient than public transportation to and from the airport.
Bus to NYX Hotel
The buses at Bilbao’s airport will take you to different parts of the city. Bus A3247 will bring you from the airport to the city center.
You can find the Bizkaibus A3247 bus stop just outside the arrivals area of the airport. The bus operates at regular intervals throughout the day. Google Maps should be your best bet if you’re taking the bus, since the numbers and schedules change.
The bus ride from the airport to the NYX Hotel typically takes around 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive at the Indautxu neighborhood, the hotel is within walking distance from the bus stop.
Rental Car/Drive to NYX Hotel
When you’re leaving the airport, follow signs for Bilbao City Center / Centro Ciudad. Your phone or GPS will help you navigate the best route to the NYX Hotel, depending on traffic. It’s about a 20 minute drive.
Public outdoor parking is available at the hotel for €18.20 per day.
Train from Bilbao Airport to NYX Hotel
There’s really no great train option to get from the airport to the NYX Hotel. It’s odd, because the city’s train line goes close to the airport, but not close enough to be convenient for travelers with luggage.
Review of The Rooms at NYX Hotel Bilbao
The NYX offers several room ptions:
- Down to Earth, a room that can be booked for 2 or 3 people
- Space, offering options from couples to family groups of 4
- NYX Suite with a terrace and spectacular views of the city
The bathrooms are nice and big, though lacking in the privacy department with the frosted glass (depending on who you’re traveling with!)
I love the windows surrounding our room. They’re tall and allow plenty of light in during the day. Plus, the view outside of the streets of Bilbao is wonderful
My favorite part would be the separation of the office / desk area in some rooms. There’s a well-placed partition between the bedroom area and the sitting area.
It’s not a suite, but the design helps expand the room visually. Plus, as someone who works late at night on my computer, it offers an excellent alternative to the usual mini-desk next to the bed.
One area where there’s room for improvement is the minibar. The coffee machine in any hotel needs to have more than two pods. The friendly staff at the front desk were quick to offer more when we asked.
Granted, Bilbao is full of cafes and other options for coffee-lovers, but a hotel room should come with more of this basic necessity for guests.
Review of the Design and Decor at the NYX
The NYX Hotel features works by local artists, slick furniture, and an overall vibrant design. It’s bright and full of pop art.
As modern as the hotel’s design is, I love the old stairways!
I generally don’t take the elevators in hotels (to at least mentally work off the glasses of wine I drink on vacation!) but the NYX had me actually enjoying the stair climb!
I love the old marble stone steps, which are original to the NYX’s days as the Hotel Almirante. The glass globe lights which help them glow are the perfect touch.
Once you get to your floor, the modern-day influence quickly returns. The hallways are painted a dark, midnight blue. I do love that the floors are a laminate to look like wood, rather than carpet. It’s much easier to keep clean!
What was the NYX Before?
The NYX was the Hotel Almirante for many years. I love that the modern decor includes retro photos of the hotel, plus its ad campaigns on the walls!
Review of the Bar & Restaurant at NYX Hotel Bilbao
The restaurant area is vibrantly-decorated with pinkish-purple hues. It’s at the streetside level, and the big windows are great for people-watching on the city blocks outside.
Breakfast
There’s no free breakfast at the NYX, which is something I enjoy. Still, their spread is very popular with guests. Here’s the info:
- Breakfast Buffet: €15 per person
Restaurant & Bar Info
- Restaurant: ”Clash” is open Mon – Sun: 1:00pm – 3:30pm, and then from 7:30pm – 11:00pm
- Bar: Open noon to 11:00pm every night, and until midnight on Fridays & Saturdays.
Rooftop Terrace at the NYX Hotel
This is normally a huge draw, but it’s never been open on my visits!
The information from the hotel is: The terrace offers 360º views of Bilbao during the summer, and is the perfect place to watch the sunset from. Keep in mind: the sun sets quite late in Northern Spain during the summer!
Amenities at NYX Hotel Bilbao
There’s a standard mini bar in the rooms, with free waters. The usual room service options are available if you’d like to stay in. The hotel also offers a nice fitness center.
Parking at NYX Hotel Bilbao
Public outdoor parking is available at the hotel for €18.20 per day, which is a pretty standard fare.
