Our Cretya Ubud Review: Is the Luxury Bali Day Club Worth it?

I was a naysayer from the start, not wanting to spend a day while on naturally beautiful Bali in a man-made day club. By the end of our stay, I have to admit: I really enjoyed it and would probably go back.

While I wasn’t there for the influencer photo ops like most people, the property won me over with its design and low costs for entry, food, and drinks.

Unless you’re familiar with Bali’s roads, I always suggest hiring a driver.  We’ve had great success with this company:

A private driver usually runs about $50 for the day (plus tip).  They can come up with an itinerary, or you can point out the sites you want to see.

Now, Let’s get to our Review of Cretya Ubud!

Cretya Booking & Prices

It’s only about $3 to enter Cretya Ubud, which as a visitor is astoundingly low! Imagine trying to get into a day club in Los Angeles for $3!

You can make reservations ahead of time to be assured a timely entry.

Prices for the swings and sitting areas are extra, and I’ll go into all of that down below.

If you don’t make a reservation, like I didn’t, you can pay at the front entrance.

Let’s Review What You’ll Find Inside

Cretya Ubud is a sprawling complex, made of several levels of pools and restaurants, overlooking rice fields.

Alas Harum Bali rice fields

We never felt overly crowded in the spacious, open-air restaurant areas.

You’ll find table settings and cabanas for lounging.  Some of them will come with extra fees.

Nets that hang over the edge come with a minimum of 2,000,000 IDR spent for the day.  That’s the equivalent of just over $120 for your group, which isn’t bad.

If you’re going for photos, make sure to get there early right when it opens! Otherwise, you’ll be competing with crowds of tourists all wanting the same shots.

Cretya Ubud’s Pool

It’s great people watching, as people take turns (sometimes politely) posing in the pools at Cretya Ubud.

The resort features multiple-tiered infinity pools that blend with the surrounding environment, offering beautiful views of the tropical forest and rice terraces.

The staff will bring cocktails to you poolside. You can also rent private cabanas around Cretya’s pools.

Photography Opportunities

Cretya is an influencer’s paradise. You’ll find an endless supply of opportunities for beautiful photos.

The pool area seems to be the most popular, followed by the famous Bali swings and nests.

  • Super Extreme Swing: 25 meters off the ground & $14 USD
  • Extreme Swing: 15 meters off the ground & $10 USD
  • Couple’s Swing: Flowery and 20 meters high & $12 US

Dress Rentals

If you’re wondering where the women get all their dresses in the swing photos online, many times they’re rentals. At Cretya, you’ll have to rent dresses for between 175,000 IDR to 255,000 IDR, or about $10 to $15 USD.

Food Options

I’ll go back anytime just for breakfast with a beautiful view.  Meal prices were very reasonably priced, ranging from 80,000 to 140,000 IDR, or about $5 – $10.

I’d recommend:

  • Big Breaky: Two eggs, beans, spinach, potato, sausage, bacon, avocado, tomato, mushroom, and hummus.
  • White Omelette: Onion, pumpkin seeds, spinach, edamame, hash browns, tomato, mushroom, and toasted sourdough

FAQs About the Luxury Bali Day Club

Let’s go over a few more frequently-asked-questions about spending the day at Cretya.

What are Cretya’s opening hours?

The day club opens at 7:00am, and depending on the activities at night it usually closes around 9:00pm.

Do you have to book in advance?

Not necessarily, but during the busiest tourist months I definitely would.  So, book your entrance passes in advance for July and August.  The rest of the year, it’s always helpful, but not totally necessary.

What’s the best time of year to visit?

The dry months are July and August, but they’re also overly-crowded.  Shoulder season months of April, May, September, and October are the months I’d aim for.

If you go to Bali during the winter monsoon season, keep Cretya in mind.  It has a lot of covered areas, so even if your trip is rainy, you can still enjoy a visit to the day club.

Is Cretya Ubud adults only?

No, children are allowed at the property.

Are there luxury resort options nearby?

Yes, I love the Guldsmeden Hotels, and their property in Ubud, Chapung Sebali, is beautiful. They have great rates in spacious rooms and suites, many of which have their own private pools.

You can enter your dates for hotels and rentals available from Booking, Hotels.com, VRBO, and other trusted sites:

What Other Waterfalls are Close?

Check out our posts on waterfalls on Bali. Many of them are in the same area, but with the roads and congestion it can take a while to drive between them.

Wrap: Is Cretya Ubud Worth It?

I admit: I wasn’t excited about spending the day at Cretya Ubud. I thought the crowd would be overwhelming.

The reality is: the property is so extensive that if too many people are in one spot, you can easily find a quieter area elsewhere.

Getting there early made our experience much more enjoyable, since very few others arrived right at 8:00am when it opened.

Even if we don’t go back for the pool, I think the meals and drinks were good enough just for a return trip for breakfast!
