Chapung Sebali eco resort on Bali

Chapung Sebali is one of several Bali resorts, offering suites with private pools.

The resort, in the central part of the island, blends into its rainforest surroundings.  The private pools which come with some of the suites and villas add a touch of exclusivity to a relaxing, luxurious stay.

As for getting to the resort, or anywhere in Bali, I’d recommend booking a driver. They’re amazingly cost-efficient, available any time, and also very flexible.

Suites and Villas with Private Pools

The configurations and features of the private pools in the resort’s different suites and villas vary.

Here’s a brief description of what you can expect in each option:

  • Deluxe Pool Suites: These suites are spacious, and designed to offer a luxurious experience with a small private plunge pool with an infinity edge.
  • One or Two-Bedroom Pool Villas (photo above): Ideal for families or groups, these villas have two separate sleeping areas, along with a private pool and garden area. They are spacious and designed for comfort and privacy.
  • The Residence:   Chapung Sebali offers a large multi-bedroom home for rent on the property, which comes with a large private pool and backyard.

Deluxe Pool Suites

We stayed in the deluxe pool suite at the resort, which is about 850 square feet!

Its large interior sleeping and living spaces are matched by an equally large bathroom.

The private pool is off the bathroom’s balcony. The design blends seamlessly into the surrounding lush forest.

The Resort’s Huge *Non* Private Pool

If you’re looking to explore the resort beyond your own private pool, be sure to wander down to the huge infinity pool, known for its jungle setting and extensive poolside bar, called the Jungle Fish.

You can choose lounges, daybeds, or tables along the pool deck, and enjoy drinks, meals, and panoramic views.

The Larger Resort Property

Overall, I think you’ll find Chapug Sebali’s resort property to be a relaxing, high-end experience in Ubud, Bali.

These are some of my favorite perks:

  • Location: The resort is in Ubud, about an hour north of the airport in Denpasar, in a lush jungle setting. The panoramic views of the surrounding rice terraces, river valleys, and dense forest contribute to the serene ambiance.
  • Spacious and Stylish Suites: The accommodations are spacious, and decorated in a mix of Balinese and Scandanavian design. The owning company, Guldsmeden, is based in Denmark.
  • Infinity Pool and Jungle Fish: As I mentioned, the resort’s large infinity pool with sweeping views is a standout feature.
  • Exceptional Service: I found the resort’s staff to be extremely friendly and attentive, willing to accommodate special requests and arrange activities on and off the property.
  • Dining Options: The restaurants serve a mix of international and Balinese cuisine. Breakfast was my favorite! I loved the acai bowls and egg options.  Many of the vegetables and herbs are grown in gardens right on-site!
  • Wellness and Activities: People praise the resort’s focus on wellness and relaxation, with a number of spa services, yoga sessions, and other wellness-related activities.
  • Family-Friendly Features: While you might think resorts with private pools cater more toward couples, Chapung Sebali gets high marks for accommodating families with children, too.  We saw quite a few multi-generational families on-site, vacationing together.

Resorts With Private Pools: Affordability

In the off-season (monsoon season during the winter months) you can rent one of the private pool suites for about $200 per night … and that comes with an excellent breakfast!

The one-bedroom villas, with private pools and yards, are under $250 per night in the off-season.

Prices rise during peak tourist season, but still remain relatively low, compared to resorts in other areas with private pool suites.  You can find Chapung’s suites for under $500 per night in July and August.

Sites to See in Ubud

Ubud, Bali, is surrounded by lush landscapes and stunning natural attractions, including several beautiful waterfalls. Here are three popular waterfalls to visit near Ubud:

  • Tibumana Waterfall: This waterfall is a bit farther from Ubud, about 30 minutes east by car. Tibumana is a narrow and picturesque waterfall surrounded by dense jungle, offering a more tranquil and secluded experience. The setting is serene, and visitors often come here for photography, meditation, or a peaceful swim in the pool at the base of the falls.
  • Kanto Lampo Waterfall: Located about 30 minutes northeast of Ubud, Kanto Lampo Waterfall is a unique cascade that flows over a series of rocks, creating a visually striking effect. Unlike many other waterfalls in Bali, Kanto Lampo allows visitors to climb over the rocks and get close to the water. It’s a favorite spot for those looking to take photos or enjoy a refreshing experience.
  • Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave): Located about 10 minutes southeast of Ubud, Goa Gajah is an ancient archaeological site with a unique cave temple featuring intricate stone carvings. Despite its name, there’s no connection to elephants; the cave’s entrance is adorned with a large demonic face, and the site includes meditation areas, a bathing pool, and lush gardens. It’s a place of historical significance and an interesting stop for cultural exploration.
  • Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary: Situated in Ubud itself, this is a dense forest area home to hundreds of macaque monkeys and several ancient temples. Visitors can walk through the forest on well-maintained paths, observing the monkeys in their natural habitat and visiting the temple structures. It’s a popular attraction for its combination of nature, wildlife, and spirituality.
  • Tegalalang Rice Terrace: Just a short drive from Ubud, this iconic rice terrace is known for its breathtaking landscapes and intricate tiered design. The site provides a glimpse into traditional Balinese rice farming and is a popular spot for photography. Visitors can walk along the terraces, take in the views, and even enjoy a meal or drink at one of the nearby cafes.

A Lombok Resort With Private Pools

Bali’s neighboring island, Lombok, is also part of Indonesia, and is an emerging tourist destination.

One of its most beautiful properties is the Quinci Villas Resort, which also offers a few suites with private pools and gardens.

The resort is on the western coast of the island, and consists of a collection of private villas and suites.  Several come with private pools and gardens.

The hotel also features outdoor bathrooms, to continue the indoor-outdoor flow in design.

Lombok hotel

Lombok is a more relaxing, less-crowded island (compared to Bali), and getting there involves an easy 45-minute flight from Denpasar.

Guldsmeden’s Other “Bali” Pool

Guldsmeden, the company that owns and operates Chapung Sebali, pays tribute to Bali with the pool design at their flagship hotel in Copenhagen, Manon Les Suites.

The distinctive, indoor pool is in the hotel’s enclosed courtyard.  It’s a Balinese-inspired tropical oasis in the heart of the city.

Natural light filters in from the glass ceiling, and the pool deck is surrounded by lush greenery, lounge chairs, and cabanas.

Wrap: Is Having Your Own Private Pool Worth It?

While booking a resort or hotel room with its own private pool may be cost-prohibitive in many countries around the world, that’s not the case on Bali!

The value is really amazing for a tropical destination.

For a large 800+ square foot suite with an infinity plunge pool to cost between $200-$400 per night is a great deal, and one I’ll definitely take advantage of again on our next visit to Bali.

Nearby Waterfalls & Sites to See:

Check out our posts on waterfalls on Bali. Many of them are in the same area, but with the roads and congestion it can take a while to drive between them.

I’d also suggest spending the morning at Cretya Ubud, a luxury day club. Great prices, beautiful pools, and a sprawling property to explore!
